Week 1

  • Introduce yourself

  • Reflection/Journal: What do you know about poetry? 

  • Review Poetry

    • Anchor Chart

    • Vocabulary

  • Read a poem

    • Underline rhyming words, number stanzas, and identify lines in the poem

    • Discuss the poem

  • Discussion/responses

 

Week 2

  • Read poem 

  • Imagery Anchor Chart

  • Video

  • Draw

    • Draw what you pictured in your mind when you heard the poem, did the author do a good job at using imagery so you can use your imagination?

  • Think-Pair-Share

 

Week 3

  • Read poem 

  • Theme Anchor Chart

  • Video

  • Draw/Write

    • Students will draw or write the theme of the poem and use text evident to help them support their answer.

  • Lead4ward Activity

 

Week 4

  • Read poem 

  • Figurative Language Anchor Chart

  • Video

  • Teacher prompt discussion and ask STAAR questions that are open ended

  • Anchor Chart with Partner

    • Students will identify all the figurative language found in the poem and create an Anchor Chart with a partner with examples from the text they read. 

  • Exit Ticket/ STAAR questions

 

Week 5 

  • Read poem 

  • Making Connections Anchor Chart/Theme

  • Video

  •  Think-Pair-Share or Lead4ward Activity

    • Students will write about a time they learned a lesson and how it connected with the poems’ lesson. 

  • Self grading rubric with objectives

  • Student-teacher conference 

  • Peer Discussion/ 2 responses

  • Course Reflection:

    • Create a video on one of the objectives you mastered teaching it to a classmate. Record yourself using seesaw.
